I got a job at American Greetings!!!

*happy happy*

Now, it's not REALLY a full time job. It's a fake one. Basically I'm taking a position that can work a maximum of 1000 hrs a year. Since the year is half over, they told me that I work 40 hrs a week and probably stay under the total hourage count, so it's like a fake full time position. I'll also be one of the first on the list if a full time position in the licensing department were to open up.

It seems like a great way to get my leg in the door of the art world. ...I got my foot in when I started my business, and did freelance work with all these companies. I'm very excited about beefing up my art skills, working with all the spiffy people that I met, (and they were spiffy! This one girl that worked there was insanely awesome, and the rest of the peeps there seemed uber talented too. I'll be surrounded by greatness!), expanding my portfolio, and having a steady income. The hourly wage leaves something to be desired. If I waitressed at a good restaurant full time, I'd probably be able to match it... but the point is that it's working in the field I've been trained for. Art job = joy.

Er, I kinda pulled a stupid though. On my resume, I listed all the programs I was trained in, including freehand and illustrator. I took a couple of classes on them, and while I was in those classes, I was pretty handy with the programs! The thing is... that was 2 years ago.

Guess what program they were most excited that I knew?

Yep, Freehand.

I work with Photoshop on a daily basis. I know just about everything that there is to know about the program. Freehand is something that I'm very foggy on right now, simply because if you don't use it, you lose it. I need to download the free trial of the program and brush up on my skills the next couple of weeks. I think it will all come back to me, and I'd rather that it come back to me while I'm sitting here at home then when I'm meeting with my employer. Shouting out "Oh! That's how to make a circle!" in the middle of my first day might not be so hot. I want to be fairly competent walking in there.

Expect some vector art in the coming weeks. It'll look a lot like my cel style work... only being vector, I will have the ability to blow it up to whatever size I desire without any pixelation issues. ...being vector, it'll also take me 2x as long to create anything. Doh! I've only got to the 13th to reaquaint myself with Freehand.

Edit: I've got it! My t-shirt designs (the ones mentioned previously) need to be crisp, flat graphics to look good on a shirt. Vector art is exactly that! I'll practice Freehand by doing t-shirt designs! Two birds with one stone, and all that.

Edit 2: Just found this. It's soooo going to save my butt. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW I'll be great with freehand... if I can remember how to use it...

A random cool gallery of vector art.
