Dragon Gal, FFXI, 'N Stuff.

Well, I didn't plow through the commissions as well as I would have hoped. Coloring albino dragon boy is taking forever, but I hope to have him finished by the end of tonight. I started in on the pencils of another commission. Dragon gal!

In other news, I've been threatened a lawsuit because I named my character Neon Ninja. OOooooOOOOOoooooo *dramatic pause* So this guy had a strip he did back in 1991 and his char was called Neon Ninja. OoooooOOOOOooooo. Coincidence, or conspiracy? His e-mail was odd. It went something like "Hello! I love your art! By the way, change the name or your character or I'll sue you. I have the copyright to neon ninja provable in court. I'd hate to have to take it to that level. No hard feelings! Thanks, and have a great day!" I like how he was very polite about wanting to sue my ass.

(Don't harass this guy or do anything mean because I posted the link to his site. I just wanted to show you the differences. I think he's suffering from a case of ignorance, not maliciousness.)

I have never seen his character before and honestly didn't see the conflict with our characters. His was a humor strip character that was male, wearing bright neon, and sharing no physical characteristics with my neon ninja (who is female, wears purple and black, is cyborg, and is used in the context of an avatar. No one who saw the two was likely to confuse them, and neither of us is actively marketing the character or publishing it in any mass market outlet. It was a case of "OMG! Someone had the same name idea as me and I want mine to be the ONLY one out there! I'm special!"

It's nice to be special, but honestly the internet is so big that there's 100's of duplicate names out there, usually followed by a sequence of numbers. "Angelgirl_690627" anyone? There's even another Neon Dragon out there in the art field, but I don't harass her or grudge her her name. I don't run around trying to sue neondragon.com or neondragon.net because they have the same name as me. YOU CAN'T COPYRIGHT A FRIGGIN' NAME!!!

I calmly explained to him that you can't copyright a name, only register it and only then if you have big bucks and register the name to a specific usage or concept. I like how people threaten without knowing anything about copyright law. He probably doesn't even know that the artwork he drew of his neon ninja is copyright to him, but the character is likely untrademarked and thus someone could take it, redraw it, and have no conciquences accociated with it. Trademarking is darn expensive and a large hassle.

Bleh...

I decided to post a little bit of the October action that Ruby saw in Final Fantasy Online.

Ruby hangs out with a new friend. Since she doesn't have a pet of her own, Ruby likes to mooch time with other people's critters. )

Ruby contemplates just how pointless it is to engage in fishing in FFXI, and wonders why she wastes hours doing it anyway. It's an introspective moment. )

Ruby takes fishing too far and decides to jump in after her prey. Tarutaru on the edge!!! (Actually, I glitched down there. I can do it any time I feel like, but no one else seems to be able to follow me underwater. Must be my small size in action. )

During halloween the streets were filled with monsters of all sorts. Luckily I ran into Drizzt. )

Drizzt totally jumped on the counter and started taking out monsters left and right. It was flipping awesome! He saved the federation of Windurst from ghoul invasion. Then again, if he can take out 3 bajillion orcs in Ten Towns, our little halloween invasion was no problem. )

After an exausting day of assasinating fish, saving Windurst, and casting Aero, 3 bajillion times, Ruby takes a little nap, protected by her giant galka friend, Ruubie. )
