Meh
This was taking forever to do in the beginning, but now that I've got a system down, I think this dual soft/hard shading method not only looks super spiffy, but will be quicker then my regular method of soft shading. While I do have to have 4 color layers to work on, they're all much simpler then the one complex color layer that I used to play with. I'm taking screenshots as I go, and will make a dragon paint tutorial on how to easily combine the two shading styles It mainly has to do with layer blend modes. Good trick! ...and I haven't updated my tutorial site in so long, it needs an update! Maybe I'll put some new things in the coloring bin. I really hate all the art that's currently in it.

I need to finish this tonight, and then get off my bum and scan in some lineart. Super Secret Attack: Random Cool Image!!!

:3 I'd be more then happy to see a tutorial on this... colouring all in one layer like this (even with finally figuring out how to use a clipping mask! XD) is such a pain... O_o' Granted, I suppose it's different for shading normally, vs. attempting to make something look like a lava-lamp from the inside out... but still! X3 I'd like to know how to do it for more conventional pictures!

The image is turning out amazing, by the way. :D Keep it up!

I tend to notice such things *after* colouring. Which is really annoying.

This is inanely nifty! And I dunno about the fingers. I mean, my hands haven't grown since I was nine (and that was nine years ago too!)

Small hands are good, you can reach all sorts of nifty things. Like through very very small jar openings.

That's looking really cool! I like the soft/hard shading thing, maybe I'll play around with it sometime? Anyway, I can't wait to see the finished piece!

I don't particularly think the hands or fingers look to small (I have small-ish hands myself)... But his left hand looks too wide, like the pinky was an "Oh crap, he's only got three fingers!" addition. The position of it looks akward as well. *attempts* It feels akward too, and takes a lot of concentration to keep them in that position, not to mention the spread itself is no where near as wide. Putting the ring and pinky fingers together, or even the outer three together, is more natural, for me at least. Maybe my hands are just odd. I don't know if I should really even be commenting, but hey, just gotta toss my $.02 in.

*tries hand position* Well, I'm not getting quite the same spread, but it isn't that tough.

Then again, I'm double jointed.

Hey! That's an idea! A contortionist wizard!

Tutorial! Yes! I want to know how you do that shiny spiffiness! Honestly, I wish I could get my art to come out looking as smooth and shiny as that. (Some of it almost looks like a liquid, so cool.)

Awesome. Everything is so furry.... *eyes sparkle* heh, I luv furry dragons. They're just so... fluffy. :-) lol.

I invented a demented whatsit. Have you ever done that? Just started to doodle and ended up with something twisted but cute in an awkward way?? I just did, and it scares me that those kinds of things are locked up in my brain somewhere....
